Kotare Designs Director James Markham likes to keep his service personal. So personal that you’ll only ever deal with him. That’s the perk of dealing with a one-man-band.
With over 18 years’ experience in structural engineering, civil engineering, water engineering, construction, and project management, James knows what he’s doing and does it well. He specialises in residential renovations, home extensions, new builds, and commercial building alterations in Wellington and surrounding areas.
Having worked in the UK, Australia, and for the last 12 years in New Zealand, James has a widespread knowledge of different building practices and the use of various materials in structural design, depending on the project and environmental factors. He is particularly inspired by the frequent use of locally sourced, sustainable materials such as wood in Kiwi building designs.
James is passionate about residential structural design and enjoys working alongside homeowners and architects to build or modify homes, including decks, garages, and car decks. He excels in delivering projects that range from simple home extensions to complex new builds, ensuring they meet all structural requirements and client expectations.
James is adept at handling commercial building alterations, including change-of-use projects and fit-outs, offering his expertise to ensure structural integrity and compliance.
Outside of work, James loves to spend time with his young family and travel to far-flung places, where he enjoys scuba diving and immersing himself in the local culture. In winter, he likes to hit the slopes on his snowboard. James is a keen football player and is partial to a craft beer at one of Wellington's many breweries after a match.
